Lost Coast

There's still a small craft advisory for the passage south from here, so we rented a car today and drove to the Avenue of the Giants and the Lost Coast. Great names, and the scenery lives up to them. We walked a short loop trail along the Mattole River, among the redwoods. Then we headed across the King Range to Shelter Cove, where we intend to anchor the evening after we sail south from here. Conditions looked good there, so we headed back north via some amazingly steep and winding back roads -- passing through Ettersburg, Honeydew, and Petrolia. On the last leg, between Petrolia and Ferndale, we passed very close to our nemesis, the dreaded Cape Mendocino. The picture makes it look fairly benign, but opinions are unanimous among the fishers and recreational boaters here that we should wait for milder winds. Last stop of the day was Ferndale, with its cute Victorian homes and storefronts.

.....wow......there you are !!!!
And you lucky sailors got to stop in Brookings and Trinidad ! I am jealous ! And I know, from recent personal experience, that you are enjoying that lovely marina at Eureka, and especially Arcata town, and the bike riding around there, and thru the trails at the top of Humbolt State! Did you tour the NOAH headquarters, there near your marina ? !! Very groovy ! ....and always a friend to all salty types.....
Happy sails, Luv Cathy, Former first mate SV Gertrud

Vicki! Hello, it's Karen Fox. I love your blog. I'm seeing it for the first time. Tom is on vacation this week. But...I have to work. I could probably arrange to get Friday off...what's your ETA around San Francisco? I don't know if we can pull this off. So the weather and water are cooperating? Looks that way. Be safe...

I can predict your next post, how your friends in Mendocino subjected you to tourist torture. What kind of reception did you expect?
